SAN GABRIEL VALLEY
Performing arts in El Monte
El Monte holds a special place in PopRock history — our very first dance and acting recital outside our own studio was held here, back in 2013 at New Hope Community Church. El Monte families were in our audience before almost anyone else.

HISTORY
Performing arts history in El Monte
El Monte holds one of the great untold chapters of American music. Legion Stadium — built as a high-school auditorium in the late 1920s — became the place where 1950s rock and R&B could be young and integrated when Los Angeles would not allow it: Art Laboe's teen dances began there in 1957, and Ritchie Valens, Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder all played its stage. When the city tried to ban rock-and-roll dances in 1956, six hundred teens and residents packed a council meeting and won. The stadium fell in 1974, but Frank Zappa's "Memories of El Monte" keeps it singing — and the district's students still take the stage at the annual Performing Arts Showcase.

Free trial policy
Free trials are limited to one (1) free group class and one (1) free private lesson per student, across all programs, and are subject to availability. Free trial private music lessons — including voice — require a deposit of 50% of the first-lesson rate at the time of booking. After the trial lesson is attended, the deposit is either refunded or applied toward enrollment. If the student does not show up for the scheduled trial, or cancels with less than 24 hours' notice, the deposit is forfeited. The deposit requirement applies to music and voice private lessons only; acting and dance offer free group class trials instead, and private lessons in those programs are generally reserved for advanced students. Additional restrictions may apply — contact the PopRock front desk for details. This offer may be rescinded at any time.
